The Moorabinda Croquet Club would have to be one of the few clubs that can claim to be have been active every year since its inception in 1904. With all the trouble and strife of the 20th century, two world wars, a financial crisis, the depression and all the problems of running a voluntary sporting club, it is a credit to all the previous members who worked hard in their own small way to keep the club going.
The Early Years
We don't know much about the croquet fraternity in the early days of settlement in the Bunbury area, but we do know that croquet was played for many years on a social basis at the home of Mrs Mary Ann Spencer located on a site at Bury Hill. The club was officially formed in 1904 and in 1909 was incorporated with its own constitution.
Sampson Road
Moorabinda Croquet Club has had three homes but still retains the original Aboriginal name - Moorabinda which means, "foot of the hill".
The first court at Mrs Spencer's home was used until 1915 when the club moved to a site on the southern side of Bury Hill in Sampson Road (pictured)
Hay Park
In 1980, the club moved to its current location at Hay Park. With a membership of over 50, they certainly appreciated the increase in number of courts from 2 to 6!
